Bitter Me
Meet The Writer: Varsha Iyer
My song was inspired by the Ariana Grande/Billie Eilish type beat I chose. Though both artists are in the pop genre, the type beat itself actually has a sort of musical feel to it, so I think I unconsciously reflected that in the lyrics. The conceptual theme is of the feeling of jealousy; I wrote about this because it's something I hate feeling, but feel often anyway. The type beat has this sort of sluggish inevitability to its sound, and I feel like that works with this recurrent jealousy idea. I considered getting into specifics of certain situations, but I thought it would diminish the all-encompassing nature of the lyrics I'd already written, so I kept to the feeling of the emotion. There was also another section of the lyrics, but I removed it because I thought it didn't fit into the musical style of the rest of the lines. That section was closer to pop lyrics than the rest, funnily enough.
LYRICS
Green eggs and ham in a basket for me
Always seem to carry all this baggage, it seems
That I'm filled to the brim, to the seams
Of an emotion that just might be jealousy

Walking a tightrope of appreciation
And jealous fixation, I've got both, you see
Got smiles for eyes to see, but it simmers underneath
A quiet-burned hatred for those better than me
And am I so wrong? I keep it inside
No, I'd never hurt you or anyone else
My words for myself, they'll just rot in my brain
Until I can find peace of mind...
I've got plenty of these
Little things that build up to a bitter me
