Out of Control

Meet The Writer: Hannah Damanka

My song "Out of Control" is an alt-rock song. I wrote this about last summer when I was going through a really difficult time in my life. A time that should've been joyful and full of celebration and was riddled with complications and roadblocks. I never knew how to deal with it, so I wrote this about struggling to cope with those issues that I couldn't control. Through the story of the song, I was able to begin coming to terms with those feelings and starting to confront them rather than keeping them bottled up. Although the lyrics have a bit of ambiguity to them, the song as a whole was helpful in allowing me to express myself. I also produced the beat, which was somewhat inspired by 2000s rock and was able to add a slight feeling of nostalgia. The syncopated rhythm of the beat plays into the rock theme of the song and gives it a unique touch.

LYRICS

out of control (instrumental)
00:00 / 02:33

So what do you do when your world comes crashing down on you?

You know you can't hide, you can't cry, but inside your emotions are cutting loose

And you’re fighting a battle which you’re certainly terrified to lose

And there's a dead end at the end of every single path you choose

So

You don’t show it, do you?

No

They don't have any clue

Why

Won't you let them come to you? No

Body knows what you’ve been through

You couldn’t control it and you didn't know what to do

And you’re scared to admit that you’re scared of the future too

But you’re keeping it in, don’t want them worrying ‘bout you

So you locked up your feelings and you chucked them way across the room

So

You don’t show it, do you?

No

They don't have any clue

Why

Won't you let them come to you? No

Body knows what you’ve been through

Sometimes it felt like my mind and body had to separate

And damn, do I wanna cry when I take my mind back to those days

There are tears in my eyes as I put these lyrics down on the page

And it's taken me a while, but I'm starting to realize that that’s okay

So

You start to show it and you

Know

That you can let them get this

Close

To seeing what's inside if you

Open

up and let them see through
